The Army National Guard is a unique part-time military force with a powerful dual mission—protecting communities at home and supporting the nation when called upon.


As a member of the Guard, you serve under your state's governor to respond to natural disasters, emergencies, and times of crisis. But when the nation needs you, you're also ready to stand alongside the U.S. Army in defense of our country.


With 54 Army National Guard units across all 50 states, Washington D.C., Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Guard is always ready, always there—wherever you're needed most.

Education And Tuition

The 2025 average tuition and mandatory fees at a Texas public university is $8,401 per year.

State Tuition Assistance (STA) for TX Public/Private Institutions

· Up to $10,000 per semester ($20,000 annual) for tuition/mandatory fees not already covered by other financial aid, grants, education benefits or scholarships (unmet need).

· Pays for up to 12 hours in tuition & mandatory fees (spring & fall semesters).

· Undergraduate, graduate studies, vocational & academic certifications, professional studies.

· Available for up to 5 years/10 semesters.

· Can be combined with FTA, GI Bill to cover up to 100% of tuition/mandatory fees. · Apply at: https://tmd.texas.gov/state-tuition-assistance-program

Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA)

· Up to $4,500 per fiscal year. Covers only tuition.

· Pays for up to 18 hours per fiscal year.

· Up to 130 semester hrs for undergraduate work; 39 hrs of graduate course work; 21 hrs towards an academic certificate.

· Can be combined with State TA, GI Bill to cover up to 100% of tuition.

· School must be approved & listed on Army IgnitED: (https://armyignited.cce.af.mil/student/public/welcome

Education and Tuition cont.

Credentialing Assistance (CA)

· Up to $2,000 per fiscal year and 1 credential per fiscal year. 3 credentials for 10 yrs of service.

· Pays expenses for course training, materials, supplies, textbooks and exams · For any credential found on the COOL Website: www.cool.osd.mil/army

· Does not have to be related to MOS.

· Maximum of $1,000/yr for select aviation related credentials

· Can be combined with State TA to cover total for tuition.

GI Bill-Selected Reserve CH 1606 w/ 6 yr contract

· Agree to a six-year Selected Reserve obligation after June 30, 1985 and complete IADT/BOLC.

· Up to 36 months of education/training benefits for members actively participating in the Army National Guard.

· Up to $493/ per month for full-time studies.

· Up to $369/per month for ¾ time studies.

· Up to $246 for ½ studies.
