Disaster Response
When disasters strike, the Guard stands ready to protect lives, restore order and help communities recover.

Counterdrug Operations

Who shows up when disaster strikes?
The Guard. We’re the nation’s most capable disaster-response force. In 2024, Guard Soldiers delivered almost 3M meals, rescued families, cleared roads and supported communities after hurricanes, floods and wildfires.
Does the Guard fight wildfires?
Yes. Our helicopters, planes and ground teams support firefighters with water drops, evacuations and fire line work until the flames are out.
Does the Guard back up law enforcement?
Yes. We provide security, crowd control, traffic management, and emergency response at major events from Presidential inaugurations to the Olympics.
What about drug trafficking?
Our Counterdrug program uses the Guard’s unique skills and resources to help law enforcement detect, disrupt and decrease drug trafficking activities.
Does the Guard protect against cyberattacks?
Absolutely. Guard cyber teams defend the Department of Defense and, when called, critical infrastructure like hospitals, airports and power grids.
