Split Training Option Enlistment

This program lets you join the Guard while you’re still in high school.

Here’s how it works: You enlist while a junior, finish that year, and attend basic combat training the following summer. You return for you senior year, during which you’ll train one weekend per month with your local unit. The summer after graduation, you’ll train for your Guard job (your MOS), and in most cases, you’ll return home in time to start college in the fall.

Some of the benefits:

  • Don’t wait—join now
  • Great part-time job while still in high school

To qualify, you must:

  • Be at least 17 years old
  • Enlist for a minimum of six years

"In my junior year I joined through the Split-Option Program and entered the National Guard as a PFC (Private First Class). I was 17. I have since accelerated to sergeant, and am the Team Chief of an Avenger Weapon System in an Air Defense Artillery unit. I have been able to accomplish many of my goals, as well as serve my country in the best way possible." — SGT James Gatchell, FLARNG
