North Dakota Guard Soldiers and Airmen continue to facilitate dike construction near Fargo, ND. The sandbag operations and resource checkpoints are facilitating flood resource distribution throughout Fargo. Guard Soldiers and Airmen are providing support to install a 400-foot Aqua-Fence at one location along the Red River. The Aqua-Fence is a new concept that has never been used before in Fargo. It is PVC-coated plywood that is unfolded and bolted to the ground to hold back the floodwaters. A crew of 14 Airmen put in about 200 feet this morning. Quick Reaction Forces are ready to respond as needed.

The following actions have been taken to ensure the North Dakota National Guard is ready if the Red River rises above the banks in Fargo, ND and surrounding areas:

  • Approximately 30 Soldiers and Airmen have been tasked to support LaMoure County in sandbagging operations for a temporary dike protection.
  • Approximately 14 Soldiers and Airmen are facilitating dike construction in Ransom County.
  • Approximately 15 Soldiers and Airmen continue to check for leaks or breaches in dikes. Two dump trucks with sandbags are on standby to support emergency sandbag levee construction in Richland County. A plan is in place to provide a high-wheeled vehicle and a Quick Reaction Force (QRF) to support emergency evacuation of residents if they become isolated by flood waters.
