278th Battery Receives Combat Patches

Contingency Operating Location Marez, Iraq

Soldiers of B Battery, Regimental Fires Squadron, 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment, Tennessee Army National Guard, received their combat Veteran patch during a ceremony on March 14.

The ceremony was held marking the Soldiers' 30th day in country as 70 enlisted Soldiers and officers joined the long list of American Veterans of a foreign war.

Battery Commander Captain John King said it was the first time his unit had deployed as a unit and was primarily made up of volunteers.

Specialist Daniel Scott, age 24, said, "It feels great [to be a Veteran]. My great uncle was part of the force that stormed Omaha Beach during WWII, and his stories inspired me to join the military. I feel good to be doing something to help my country."

The battery is located in Memphis and Covington, TN.
