Over 300 Minnesota Soldiers Activated for Flood Duty

One hundred and fifty Minnesota Army National Guard Soldiers from the Moorhead-based 2nd Combined Arms Battalion, 136th Infantry (2/136 CAB), arrived at the Moorhead Armory this morning, and another 130 Soldiers are scheduled to arrive later today.  

Over 32 Soldiers from the St. Paul-based 34th Combat Aviation Brigade (34th CAB) were ordered to State Active Duty today for Flood Fight 2010.

The 34th CAB is sending two UH-60 Black Hawks, one CH-47 Chinook helicopter equipped with aircrews and support personnel in order to provide aviation assistance to the North Dakota National Guard.

The aviation support request was generated through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) between Minnesota and North Dakota.

The Minnesota National Guard will assist local authorities with the protection of life and property, and will provide security during flood fight operations.  

Minnesota National Guard Flood Fight operations may include:

- Quick Reaction Force teams responding to citizen evacuation and dike breaches
- Dike patrols
- Monitoring, securing and refueling of pumps
- Route reconnaissance on major roads
- Traffic control points
- Communication back-up support
- Air support
- Ground movement support.

Under the direction of the governor, the Minnesota National Guard will continue to provide necessary resources to support civil authorities responsible for the state's emergency management plan.
