one person got promoted to E2 in OSUT in my platoon i believe.

in my company (not my OSUT company, my drilling company), everyone that graduated e1 was promoted to e2 when they passed their first APFT when they got to our unit

It is very very rare to see a NG soldier promoted at Basic, you can see a regular Army soldier promoted possibly. Our promotions will happen when you report to your unit after training.

E-1 to E-2 is automatic after 6 months time in service. E-2 to E-3 is automatic after 12 months time in service. The promotion can happen on paper, as in the pay increase and the rank being PV2/E-2, however I doubt they'll call you up and give you the rank while in basic.

So I was talking to a kid in a chat room who just enlisted in the Guard. He's 18 years old and going in as an E-1. He said 'I'm coming out of basic as an officer. I guarantee you that!' Lol. I told him he has a lot of research to do. I pray he does before he goes in or he's in for a rude awakening.

The "automatic" part only covers eligibility. If you or your immediate chain never speak up, you could endup being E1,E2,E3 for longer than you should.
