Default College Loan Repayment

Each state is different, but normally you would have to have submitted your student loan documents when you enlisted. If you did so, it will be an automatic process. Your unit should be able to assist you in following up on the payments. The process takes some time, so if you have a payment due, pay it on your own. If you let it default, the Guard will not cover it.

As long as you had SLRP (Student Loan Repayment Program) as part of your entrance contract into the ARNG you are good to go, but with that you should have also provided your recruiter/retention NCO with your student loan information.

Joining the ARNG does not make SLRP automatic, it must be in your contract. If it is you need to make sure that all of your current (as of your enlistment date) student loan information was submitted at enlistment with your contract. If necessary your unit can help you verify this information with your state's Benefits Coordinator.

As far as the program is concerned, it makes a lump sum payment, based on your contract, to your student loan organization on the aniversary of your enlistment/reenlistment. What this means is that you get a portion of your student loans paid after the completion of every year of service. Since you have only been in a short time, you have a little time to ensure that all of your paperwork is correct and complete - then on the aniversary of your entrance date a payment will go toward your loan(s).

Default Slrp

Student loans are repaid in increments throughout your enlistment your need to ask your units R&R NCO to submit the paper work each year on your enlistment anniv. You must be MOS qualified before you receive an entitlement.
