SMP Enlistment

Hello again,
I just got back from LTC and am now interested in the guard. Is it true that I can enlist through the SMP without going to basic? Also, is there a maximum distance that the unit can be away from your residence? Additionally, any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

If you are already a contracted cadet, which you should be after completing LTC, then you can serve as an SMP cadet directly, without Basic Training. Call 1800-Go-Guard and speak to your local recruiter, who will also work with you on a unit assignment. Be advised that units train year round, even when you're on summer break, so if your home of record is far from college, address this issue before you sign.
