Yes you will receive BAH and your military pay while you are gone.
So, I will recieve money while I am at basics? What's a good estimate on how much I will get. And then when I am out of basics, I'll get half of my sign on bonus?
ok while you are at basic if you are married you will get your basic pay per month , that is based off your pay grade. you will recieve seperation pay $250 per month, and you will recieve BAH II which is based off your zip code and payed per month, you will not recieve your bonus until your COMPLETION of your AIT, and fully MOS qualified, so depending on how your state works after you get home your looking 1-3 months before you see the bonus first payment
If you enlist as an E-1, you will get a base pay of $1,178.10 per month. You will also get a housing allowance (Amount varries depending on the area you live in) If you add up the money from Basic and AIT, typically it will be around $5,000 (give or take). After you complete AIT, you will receive the first half of your bonus (minus taxes). The second half comes after three years.

my husband signed up for the national guard last month sometime, and he doesn't go to basic until october 31st. he went to a drill at the first of this month. does he get paid for that on the 1st of next month? i'm assuming so because he still hasn't got it yet. also, we are expecting a child in august. we have a 2 year old son now, but i have no job right now. with him going to basic i won't have any income besides what the national guard pays him during basic. i was told by another military person that i would get a check just because we're married, but i'm afraid it won't be enough to cover our bills. he also said that he would have his cost for uniforms taken out of his pay which will leave us even less money. my question: will i get a check for myself and for the children? or how does all this work?
Typically if you dont get paid within 10 to 15 days after drill there is a problem. In the guard unfortunately this is a common occurance, but it is an easy fix. Your husband needs to contact the Admin NCO at his unit. During basic training he will receive 1178.10 a month(for E1) plus a housing allowance depending on your zip code and rank(avg 500 a month). Being married your husband will be required to prove that you have acces to his pay. All of his military clothing will be issued to him at no cost.

Just some more info. Your husbands check will be deposited in your account while he is in training by electronic transfer just like his drill check. Find out who the family support group leader for your husbands unit is. This person will be able to assist you with any issues that arrive while he is in training, such as using the Tri-care health insurace while he is on active duty. My wife was the family support group leader for 2 yrs. at my previous unit and did this many times. I hope this helps.

thanks so much. you've been tons of help. i feel a lot better about all of this too. i'll be sure to tell him to call and check on his drill pay. thanks again.![]()
i have been hearing alot that the bonus isnt paid until after completion of AIT, and then 50% after 3 years. However, my husband is prior USMC and has re-enlisted and we were told 50% up front, then 50% after AIT. Is this the correct answer? Alot of the people we talked to werent sure b/c hes prior and signed as a Recruiters Assistant and going from Marines to ARNG. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Now when he gets back from basic he can get a civilian job(or continue his current civilian job) and make way more than he would in the Army.
