    Unhappy Lose weight

I need to lose about 70 pounds to even tape into the Guard. I have been running all year long, I know that I am not going to lose weight over night but I know that I could do better. My biggest problem is eating. My family does not take restrictive eating very seriously. I can't always eat something healthy because my mom seems to always want to take the easy way out with cooking by frying and fixing a bunch of sweets and buying alot of drinks. What can I do and how can I do it. If I bought my own food I would go broke trying to feed myself and I wouldn't have many places to store it at. I need help....badly!!!!!!!!

    Default maybe this will help

i am in the same boat as you i have to lose about 50 lbs. i have lost about half give or take a few lbs. But what i do is eat a lot of salads and healthy stuff( meat, cheese, gum lol). Not a lot of foods high in fat or fried. Work out like crazy!!!!!! I run evryday and go to the gym but you may not be able to do that so just vary your run in length and time. Don't eat past 6 or 7pm at night and i do sit-ups and push-ups evry night before i go to bed to help burn off any extra calories that i can. Drink lots of water no soda its bad for you water water water!!!!!!! i hope that helps some you can private message me if u don't understand something.

Thanx I actually bought my own treadmill about a week ago, I drink about a gallon of water per day often times more than that. Sometimes I don't even want to eat at home cause of what my folks are eating I know I need to eat but sometimes I just want to get some cereal and go to bed at night. I know also that I need to decrease my intake but would that be a good choice???

Work with your parents, one thing that you may try is to include them on the idea of healthy eating - and not always taking the easy road to do it. See if your family would be up for a test run of substituting fruit (like a bowl of fruit) as a substitute for sweets, and low calorie soft drinks (like Crystal Light) as opposed to soda. Perhaps you could take some time (if you have it) to learn recipes for healthy meals and spend tme with your family preparing these meals. You might have what it takes in your goal to be a catlyst for change. It also will help to bring your family together toward this goal and allow for more time to be spent before, during, and after the meal.

Perhaps your mother grew up in the generation of fried foods and is just needing the assistance to try some other recipes that are as easy to prepare as fried foods - and yu can always add it is for thier health too - as I am sure you want to keep them around as long as you can If this works then you might be able to get them out with you for an evening walk around the nieghborhood...

I got on the treadmill last night and finally made two miles again I'm working toward my goal of 3 miles but it won't be untill around august 14th till I make 3 but its cool cause I'll be use to 2 miles by then and I will be constantly increasing my distance over the time to meet that goal this month I'm doing 2 miles next month I'm doing 2.5 and come August I will be at 3 then I will hold 3 miles for 3 months before I hit 4 miles and so on and so on. As far as my eating I'm struggling but making some progress. Its crazy because I have been eating cereal for breakfast and lunch for the past two days and at first I was around 300 but now I stepped on the scales this morning I was around 296/7.

Good work on the treadmill, everything you do is a step in a good direction. Take note that you should have the incline at about 3 degrees - which is a better simulation of road running. This may slow you down a bit but the rewards will still be a great considering your motivation.

As to your cereal meals, you should have a more diverse diet. You may want to consult a nutritionist (if one is available to you) or check out some serious (non-fad) diet information at your local library to get an idea of some routes you could take to assist you with the weight loss.

    Thumbs up This Morning

Ok this morning I got paid so I went to Easy Way and bougt some fruit and just about the biggest bottle of water I could find. I bought 3 green apples to eat throughout the day while at work and when I get home I am going to run another 2 miles. Right now I am 5'8 about 297/6ish and my mile run time is 12 minutes. I use a treadmill because my schedual is very full and trying to go to a gym after I get off of work and go to school is kind of hard so I went and got my own. Yesterday I ran pretty good and I discovered the day before if you eat and try to run right afterwards its like commiting suicide for your run cause it won't be very pleasant. Yesterday I went home after school and ran two miles then ate a turkey leg, not fried and took my butt to bed after a nice shower. This morning I woke up and cooked an egg sausage and cheese omlet. I really didn't eat too much of the sausage so its still sitting on my plate at home in the microwave. I'm eating apples all day long and drinking a huge bottle of water. So what do you think????

How quickly are you trying to lose the weight BTate? My brother said when he was in the Army for a while, they built up speed and distance by starting with 60/40's. Sounds like you have a solid 12 min mile, in past posts you said 3 mile in 36 etc... Try doing 60/40's on the treadmill, kind of rough on the treadmill so I recommend not using your own, but do a warm up jog, and then run 60 seconds, walk 40 seconds etc... or keep it in 60/40 ratio. I do 90 seconds running, 60 seconds walking, I talk have tried doing variable speeds, 40 seconds 3.0 mph, then 60 seconds 5.0, 40 seconds 3.0, 60 seconds 8.0 etc... I don't know if it is the best way, just a way that has worked for me. Just thought I would throw in an opinion of someone in similar circumstance,
6'2 275 need to get to 240 for the purpose of getting taped. Good luck.

    Default Atkins Diet

I lost about 25-30lbs in 2 mos about a year and half ago doing the Atkins low-carb diet. I stayed in induction phase for probably 6 weeks of that. The first couple weeks, I didn't have energy to do a lot of excercise( i would "bonk" pretty quickly mt biking), but after that, I was able to excercise w/o problem. My MD said the South Beach Diet would probably be better. I found Atkins worked for me, but would stay away from some of the fattier/ lower-quality foods like bacon and sausage. It was hard to do without carbs the first week or so, since I am a carb ******, but after that it wasn't too bad, especially since now there are quite a few low-carb foods that are sweet to take care of that craving.

Default Carb addiction is good, if...

    Hey guys!

Carb addiction is probably because our bodies and especially brains, run on carbs- hence the 'bonk' on low carb diets. Nature intends for you to be a carb ******, and for those carbs to come from fruit.

I just posted my story, good tips, and recent experience in dumping weight in the Basic Training thread at:

i think you are progresing nicely if you are 5'8" and weighing in at near 300 and being able to 12 minute mile. You'll improve if you want it bad enough. Keep drinking plenty of water. Limit yourself to 2 diet sodas a day. Minimal sugar intake and no fried foods. Keep your cardio around 45-60 minutes non-stop no matter what type it is... Lay off the bread and cheeses. Try mixing your cardio up a little like run a mile, stationary bike 2 miles, then go back and run another mile. Finish off with some abdominals......

    Default get off that treadmill

GET OFF THE TREAD MILL NOW your in for a world of hurt and pain if you prepare your self with a tread mill.....its 100% different then real road and pavement. as well if you really need to lose weight you can take hydroxy cut. its ok to pass a UA on as well my recruiter was talking abouthow he takes it. you combine that with exercise and low fat low cal diet and you will ose weight fast. as well a protein diet will work better than all diets guranteed. also you need to understand that every 3500 calories you pull from your diet you lose a pound most people average like 2200-2500 pounds. running two miles actualy doesnt burn as much calories thaty ou would expet. instead a high intensity carido workout. YOU CAN DO IT!

    Default Hey BTate!

Yeah, a 12:00 is pretty good for a guy your size.

A couple of basic things...two, just to keep it simple...

the turkey and egg sandwiches aren't the performance food you need to do the cardio you need to dump the weight. And the protein isn't doing you kidneys or bones any favors either, oh, and your % of calories from fat is still likely 20%+.

You'll get more power from bananas, because you can throw down enough of them to make a meal-perfect, really: water, sugar, and electrolytes. And perfect because if you buy them by the case like I do, it's only $0.50 a pound, even for organic, which taste better.

The other poster...."no sugar"...I am sure meant no white sugar or white flour.

    Best to you!

    Thumbs up

OK, here we go. I am a 26 yr old female. I am 5'3" & currently 159. I have lost 27 lbs within 11 weeks. I can do sit ups no problem, push ups not too badly, but the RUNNING! OMG. I have to be honest & tell you that I can't run any more than 1/8 of a mile. Why you ask? My legs feel like they weigh 100lbs each, & it tires me out fast. I've always been best at quick, fast sprints. It's not that I can't run, it's that I can't last. Everything else I can manage. PLus I hear that what you do in your own time, and what you find you can do when a DS is in your face, coaching you on with screaming(lmao) is different. I work best under pressure. I want honest opinions, does anyone think I can make it? I am so frightened of failing. I've have since quit smoking (2 days!) I wear a patch for now, so that aspect I am overcoming. I'd just love to hear some words of inspiration, maybe hearing someone else has my frame & made it through BCT. This is my goal, i've came this far already, & I don't intend on quitting. This is a lifetime change. Starting tomorrow I will work on the running. I will start at what I can, and try at least upping it every day after. My BMI is a 28. Twas a 33 when I started this diet. Will the ANG still allow you in if you don't meet the weight requirement, but you DO meet the BMI? I am of a larger frame & muscular, so my 159 isn't of all fat.

    Default the real way

i was 280 and had to get down to 205, i did this in 5 months. And in my experience diet pills and anything thats on TV wont work, just a waste of money. I went threw the same thing with the food in the house not being healthy. Do what i did go to the grocery store and buy your own food, if it doesnt grow or eat somthing that grows dont get it. ALOT of water with every meal, and drink as much as you can all day long. try to run twice a day, i dont meen **** yourself. I started out running a mile in the morning to wake my body up sort of speake, and two miles about an hour befor i went to bed. but the absoulte most important thing is to stay focused, i bought an Army flag and hung it over my bed so every morning when i woke up i reminded myself what i was working for. try to think of somthing that will motivate you. You can get ride of the weight, just stay with it.

    Thumbs down

Hey, I wrote this same thing in another room. Today IS A BAD DAY FOR ME! I haven't exercised all weekend long, somehow gained back 3lbs & am having some extended family issues that aren't helping matters. I am at the point of disowning them anyways. I started smoking again, just can't break it. I know in BCT you wont have enough time to even think about smoking. The problem is right now I have too much time on my hands. Plus everyone in the house who's over 18 smokes. I feel so yucky today & I let myself down. I know I have to pick it up again today. After I finish reading these messages i'm hitting the treadmil. Anyone else having the same problem? I tried the "not eating thing", and it's a temporary fix. The minute I eat something I gain. But it was so long I had gone for without eating that my gums/teeth were killing me! I'm sorry to vent about it, I realize what i've got to do. This battle *****.

Hey there....I need to loose about 60lbs and I'm 41. I was told by my recruiter to eat 5 meals a day. I found a great diet on Military.com website by Stew Smith that is basically the same diet my recuriter told me about. It's easy to do and you can modify it and add things by sticking to the rules.

    http://www.military.com/NewContent/0...062305,00.html

Hope this helps. First week and I've lost 5 lbs.
There's ALWAYS another way or another answer!

    Default Lose weight

Well, I started a little over 2 weeks ago, my son is helping me both with research as to diet and as my work-out coach.

I eat mostly low carb, high protein, some fat, but not huge amounts, foods, about 1500-1800 calories a day. When I get up in the morning, I do at least 50 crunches, 20 push ups, and 20 squats. Then I go to work (I work 2 jobs, about 14 hours a day), and after work it's 30 minutes of cardio (mostly treadmill and stationary bike), 30 minutes of resistance training (weights) and 30 minutes of toning (sit-ups, crunches, and the like). In the 2 weeks+ that I have been doing this, I have lost 12 pounds, 2 inches off my thighs, and 1 inch of my tummy. So, of course, check with your doctor first, to make sure you don't have any hidden issues, and then go for it.

I am 21 years old 6'0 and weigh 276 I have been running the roads almost every night for an hour and eating fruits and vegtables for a month and I haven't seen results that I thought that I would see I have lost 2 inches on my waist and gained an inch on my neck 18" I was wondering if any of you had any tips for me or should I just keep doing what I am doing?

    Cool

Look you can lose wight overnight all you have to do is wear a trash bag over you and tuck it in your sweatpants so you can burn calories over night. Just by doing a little running with the bag on works. This may sound silly but it works. I have lost a total of 20 pounds, by just doing a little running on the treadmill with the bag and sleeping with it as well. As for the food try the diet of lose 10 pounds in 3 days. You can ask a recruiter for it. You have to lose probably more than me but remember "nothing is impossible." Give it a shot youll see it works for all of you.

When you eat stuff like what you described, not only are you not getting nutrition, but you are also putting harmful things into your body. So you are attacking your body on two fronts. Your body's well-being depends on what you put into it, and when you only put sugar and refined carbohydrates in it, it can't do anything. You need to change your diet, or at the least add some good things.

I suggest getting a juicer and making a glass of fresh, uncooked carrot-celery-green pepper-tomato-whatever else you want juice every day. All you have to do is spend five minutes every day, and you get an enormous amount of nutrition.

To add what another poster said about learning recipes, try to see if your mom would let you cook for the family, if your preparing the meals and seeing what goes into them it will help you to be aware of what your eating. Portion control is a huge deal in losing weight. Try smaller meals, there is a three hour theory, you need ot eat every three hours. not meals but 3 'meals' aday with 3 snacks. An apple is a snack, an orange, some nuts etc. ... go with salads the bag kind, the bags of frozen chicken boobs some grill seasonings and your set. It could get boring but it will work.

    Good luck
