The military is definietly a good place to start when getting into the intelligence field. An MOS of 96B (Intelligence Analyst) is a great starter MOS for the field. The National Guard will give you the same training as the Active Duty, and depending on the unit you are assigned to, you will likely get some good hands-on experience as well. If you decided to go active duty, you will get more hands-on experience than you would in the Guard, but on the downside, you would have to wait until you complete your enlistment before you would be eligible to apply for any positions in the civilian sector (DHS, FBI, CIA, DEA, NSA). You could enlist in the Guard as a 96B, complete the training, and start applying for positions. If you find that you don't have enough experience in the field to get the jobs you want, you can always go active duty, for a few years, and try applying after you get out.
