Thread: PT Question

  1. #1

    Default PT Question

I'm prior service and thinking about joining the Guard. I've been told I don't have to go to WTC or BCT, so how long after I begin drilling do I take the PT test? Is it whenever it falls in the unit's training cycle? I'm in pretty decent shape, but, like most women, need to work on my push-ups.
    Thanks!

    Ted,
when were you with the 82nd? I was there from March 80 til June of 85.

Do you ever go to the conventions?

And what is the deal on PT? Also, why do the scoring charts cut-off at age 41? What is the scoring if you are older?

    Thanks,
    Colleen

    Colleen,

I was there from Dec 77 to Dec 85. I didn't go to the conventions but was part of everyone of the infamous yearly reviews.

You may be looking at an incomplete chart. I just looked up FM 21-20 and the charts go up to 62+. Make sure that you look at the FM dated 1992. You can go to your AKO account and get a PDF copy from there.

Let me know if you ever find out about the deal with PT. I also am a female prior service that doesn't have to go to BCT, but unlike you, I am still trying to recover my pre-mommy body.

Oh...I still need some body recovery work... I can squeak by the body fat %, but want to meet the weight standard, so I have about 10 lbs to drop.

And I have no mommy excuse...LOL...my son & daughter are both active duty! (and Airborne, of course)...

Ted, the recruiter who replied above, was very helpful answering my questions... from what he said, usually you don't do the PT test right away, usually just when it comes up in your assigned unit's training schedule. Also, I guess you have 90 days to pass in case you fail the first time.

    Best of luck to you!

It all depends on when your unit wants to give you your PT test. They could give you a couple drills to get everything square or they could give it to you on your first day there.

    Thumbs up

It depends on when it falls in the training cycle. You only have to take one a year. When you attend, NCOES you will be given one after you get there. If you fail, you will be given another chance to pass.If you fail again you will be sent home.Start doing your pushups, situps, & running now before you join. The Guard is a blast: I have 21 years in.I want to stay until 60.I'll have 32 yrs. then.I've just returned from Afghan. 1 yr. ago.
