    Talking Infantry

I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I recently posted that I wanted to become an MP but due to my credit I am not sure if it is going to be possible. I am going to join the National Guard one way or the other. I was curious to become Infantry do you need a Secret Clerance. I also was wondering If I join Infantry what would the requirements be as far as the physical training part. I want to goto Airborne School also would that be able to be worked into my contract so that I would be able to attend that after Infantry training. What are the requirments for Airborne School. If you attend Airborne School does that mean you are in the Airborne Division or does that mean you just did the class. If I join the National Guard and I want to go Active I was told I have to wait 6 months or so. Would all of my training and rank be the same. Sorry for all of the questions I am just trying to figure out what the best route for me is.

Infantry does not require a secret clearance. If you've had credit problems, then you may be wise not to try to go MP. If you want to go to Airborne school, then an infantry MOS is the best way to start. You can't get Airborne in your contract, but after you finish basic training and AIT, you can ask you unit about volunteering. There are no real requirements other than being able to do well on the PT test, and being highly motiviated. If you do get an Airborne slot, and finish the training, you will not be reassigned to an Airborne unit. You will stay in your current unit. As far as transferring to active duty, there is no waiting period, but 6 months is a good time to wait, because your unit has to release you in order for you to go active. They probably wouldn't like it very much if you got back from AIT, and your first drill you were already talking about leaving. Your rank would stay the same, and the training you received in the guard would still count.

that's not a factor for 91W, but you must have the qualifying line scores for that MOS and no adversion to blood.

Getting back to the original topic of discussion, "Infantry", there is a newsletter called "Infantry Focus" from The Army National Guard at Fort Benning, Georgia. In the April, 2006 issue it has an article titled "All Guard IET Soldiers eligible for Airborne and more incentive training." If you excel in IET (it is OSUT for Infantry) you may be eligible for Airborne school. If you are honor grad or have the high APFT score, you automatically get a slot.

So, if you work hard and are the best, you WILL go to Airborne school according to this article.
