    Default Reenlistment bonuses

I am getting mixed messages on the reenlistment bonuses currently being offerred. I was wondering if I could just get a quick recap of what is available, how the payout works (lump sum payment, etc...), and what kind of rules or requirements have to be met in order to recieve the bonus. I joined the Army National Guard in 1998, I am currently in my 8th year of service. I have not accepted any bonuses to this date. I am a critical MOS of 91W-Combat Medic. My rank and grade are SPC/E4. My ETS date is 26SEP2006. Any information you can provide me would be much appreciated, thank you.

Since you are currently under a year from your ETS date, you are eligible for reenlistment. If you reenlist for 6 years, you can receive a $15,000 bonus. For 3 years, you can get a $7,500 bonus. The first half of the bonus is paid up front, and the second half after three years. The only way to get the bonus as a lump sum is if you reenlist while activated overseas. You need to act fast though...The current bonus is only valid through May 31st.

Default Going to Iraq is part of the plan...

I have volunteered to join a Combat Engineer unit out of Jonesboro, AR for their upcoming deployment to Iraq for 18 months. I figured they could probably use another Combat Medic. So I am currently transferring from my home station (Camp Rilea, OR) to their unit in Arkansas. I was told that on July 5th 2006, we would be on state orders and have to check in with the armory on a daily basis, and that they estimate us shipping out sometime around mid-July. Since my ETS date is September, and I'm deploying overseas prior to that, would that mean I would qualify for the lump sum?

I am in the process of an IST transfer as we speak, I don't know if that changes anything or not. I will completing AT mid-June with my Oregon unit, even though I have already completed my AT this year, they needed the additional support. Once that is completed, I will be traveling south to meet up with the Arkansas unit. I just wanted to get some knowledge under my belt before my arrival with the new unit. I appreciate your attention to my questions, for some reason, I've gotten conflicting information. This is helping me clear things up so that I understand it all better.

My husband is also in the ARNG, a 1Lt. currently attached to a Field Artillery unit as their Physicians Assistant, he will remain in Oregon during my deployment. Neither of us have taken advantage of any bonuses, but he did get accepted into the PA Program at Ft. Sam Houston a couple years ago, and received a free 4 yr degree out of the deal in less than 2 yrs. Well worth the time and effort.

My husband recently re-enlisted in the ARNG for 6 years. He is prior service - 8 yrs in the USMC. We are being told he doesnt get his bonus until after AIT, and then we were told he gets 50% up front when his enlistment process is complete, then we were told he has to complete boot all over again, which I believe is incorrect. He also signed on as a Recruiters Assistant, and in the booklet, it too says 50% is payable up front, the rest upon AIT completion.
Which bonus payout is actually correct?

    Thanks for the help

If you are reenlisting into the Army National Guard and are a primary slot holder the bonus is $15,000 for six years and $7,500 for three years this has not changed. What did change on 26 May 2006 (SRIP FY 26 May 2006 - 31 Dec 2006, pg 7) was that the reenlistment bonus payment has changed from 50/50 to LUMP SUM no matter if in a combat area or not.

I'm sorry so I don't confuse anyone it is a EXTENSION BONUS which means you are already in the Guard and are wanting to extend your contract, not out of the military and wanting to get back in.
