Default Getting in shape at basic?

Hey all. I am a tall skinny guy. 6 feet 3 inches tall. I weigh about 170. Very skinny. I am wondering how 'in shape' I would be after basic? My recruiter said he put on 20 pounds during basic (im hoping it was 20 pounds of muscle!). What happened to your body weight/muscle mass after basic? Thanks

I don't know about after basic, but I remember being a very skinny 5'11" 150 or so pound 18 year old, with very little muscle mass before basic. I came out of basic with about 160 pounds, and I lost about 2 inches off my waist. I probably would have retained more weight, but there was a virus going around that summer, almost everybody got it, I didn't get it until 6th week of basic, had a high enough fever to get me to the hospital, stayed in the hospital for four days, and then only had about two weeks left in basic.
