    Exclamation help ?

Mt husband is currently active duty army , and has become interested in switching to the national guard for an AGR position or a technician position. are there any benefits to doing this , and if so what are they ?

I also understand that an AGR position is active guard and reserve position so they are still part of the guard , but from my understand a technician is a civilian employee , so how does that position tie into the guard ?

The technician jobs are funded for support of military needs, and are directed (in the case of the ARNG) by the state. As each state will have different needs and position requirements; a technician job will work directly with thier AGR counterparts.

The big difference between Active Duty and ARNG is that instead of a PCS every few years you remain in one state, and depending on your goals this can be a good thing towards putting down roots in an area other than directly adjacent to a major military installation.

You should first try to find out what AGR and technician positions are available in your projected state(s) first - this will tell you what you are up against to secure a slot in regards to MOS, Clearance, Time In Service requirements - of in the case of a tech, any civil service requirements, application process, government pay grade (GS), and the such. One big difference between an AGR and tech position is with AGR housing. etc are the same as active, as a tech you recieve your pay and handle it no different as your civilian sector jobs...
