    Smile start out slow

if you start slow and continue to run and exercise everyday eventually you will get into shape. It may take a while but in the end it will have been worth it.

Getting into shape is, as previously mentioned, nothing that will happen overnight, it will take a lot of effort on your part. You must look at excercise and diet combined to help you get into your goals, if you smoke - STOP.

If you can run two blocks, at least try to do that daily, and increase another block overy week (or few days). You should try to run a different distance every day (one day longer, one day shorter). Variation helps in all excercises, but do not just stop becuase you reach 2 or 3 blocks, if you feel you can continue farther by all means go for it.

Look through the other posts in this section for some more help, web links, and support. Do not take infomration from sources that push pills and hype for shortcuts, if you can find a work-out buddy that is always a big help in motivating getting out and doing it. There are no shortcuts, otherwise everyone would be healthy and in shape - but the rewards that come from dedication and hard work toward achieveing your goal are numerous.

Your body can set into a routine as easily as your mind... by doing the same excercises, the same number of excercises, running the same distance or the same pace... these will cause you to reach a level of physical training were you are not going to increase your ability, but maintain where you are at.

As to running, vary your distances and pace, try to have a minimum distance (such as 2 mile) for even days, and a longer distance (3 miles for example) on odd days. And vary your pace - for example run faster on the 2 miles, and run a constant pace on the 3 miles... but do not be afraid of "shaking that up" as well. Add some sprints, do some variation running (run at a pace, then call out an object a short distance ahead and the sprint to it, do not stop once you reach it, and go back to your pace until the next sprint).

These types of posts all need to be redirected to the Health and Fitness section, this way more people can benefit from the Q&A, as well post thier ideas and knowledge.

    Default hey some advice

don't try to run a lot, when your running if you get tired just walk, walking is better than nothing, each week try to increase the amount of distance you run. that is what my track coach told me!!!!

I am going to start working out. I can't run 2 miles in time, I can't run it at all. Takes like 24 minutes. Going to start doing the eliptical to build stamina and sprints for speed. Hope it helps.

    I'm 5"6 110 pounds.

Highly recommend this site if you haven't run a lot:
    Pod Runner Couch to 5k

I did the 9 week program and have been running 3 miles since at a 9 min. pace (yea, not great...but incredible from where I was 2 1/2 months ago). Once you start to get to the point where you can run for 20-30 min straight at a decent pace, then start to change up your routine like others have been posting by doing 30:60s and other interval training.

KEEP PUSHING YOURSELF...99% OF RUNNING IS MENTAL!!!
