I notice the pay scale says an E-1 makes around $1200. Does this mean a month or is it by the year?

That is per month hon.

This is for a years training as a private.
you said 1200$ is for a years pay purdue...aint that extremely low?Originally Posted by Specialist Purdue
The $1200 is monthly pay for active duty. This is the base pay per month that you will get while at basic training and AIT as an E-1. After that you are released from active duty and resume a "one weekend per month" status (M-DAY). During this time, as an E-1, you will get 164.69 for a weekend drill. The annual pay for an E-1 (Although hopefully you won't be an E-1 for a whole year!) would be $2953.87. This includes 12 weekend drills, and one two-week annual training period. This IS low if its the only job you have, but if you're going to school full time, or working full time, its not a bad supplement for one weekend per month.
