Ensure that with questions like these you avoid misleading posts from forum members that may not have the knowledge to correctly reply. Erroneous speculation and information causes confusion and problems.
If you enlist on the 24th of May you will not recieve anything right away. As soon as you begin drilling with your unit, or the RSP, you will start to receive pay for those drill weekends. The pay will be based upon your rank at the time, and will equal 4 days military pay.
A drill weekend is divided into Military Unit Training Assemblies (MUTA) and there are two per drill day. This is how you get the 4 days pay for one weekend of work.
If you are to receive an enlistment bonus, depending on the length of your enlistemnt you will recieve the first half, minus taxes, upon completion of all of your qualification training (Basic and AIT), and the second half at the mid-point of your enlistment.
As to Tuition Assistance and the GIBill; TA is paid directly to your college - you register for classes, submit a TA Application through Virtual Armory, and your State's TA Coordinator takes care of the rest. On the GIBill, if you qualify for the GIBill (and additionally qualify for the kicker) you will receive a payment while in school from the Veterans Administration for each academic month you are in attendance.
As far as checks, you may recieve one or two paper checks initially for drill pay, however make sure you have completed and submitted a form for Direct Deposit to your recruiter, this way you never have to worry about checks - it all goes directly to your bank account.
