Thread: Active to Guard Officer

    Default Active to Guard Officer

I hate to double post something, but I haven't had any answers to these questions on the Officer forum and I have waited 5 days, so maybe I will have some better luck here.

    1. If the area I desire to move to (Fort Riley area) has no Guard units that accomodate my 19A career field (MOS), can I join any unit and will they retrain me to do their unit's specialty?

    2. Do I need to complete a REFRAD or resign my comission before joining the Guard?

    Thank you for any help!!

    1. You can join a unit unqualified, and they'll send you to school. There are also branch immaterial or substitutable positions. You'll have a place in the WA Guard, don't worry.
    2. You'll need to refrad, but don't resign your commission. Work with the Reserve Component Career Counselor (RCCC) at Ft Lewis to make a smooth transition.
