I am a Nationally registered certified medical assistant....
Is it true I would be able to enlist as an E-4 then?

and my student loan can be paid off? or are there certain criterias for student loan payoff?

anyways....what all do you learn as a 68w/91w?

    Hey,
I'm 18 and thinking of joining the Guard or the Army in the near future.
Is there a Combat Medic MOS or is 91W/68W the closest one?
If so what can you all tell me about 91W/68W? Any and all information would be helpfull
    Thanks

    Default Training Books

I am attending BCT in May and then off to Ft. Sam Houston in July. I know that the first half of the 91W AIT is NREMT-B prep. What text book is used for this training? I'm thinking I might buy it ahead of time and start working through the workbook. Is there some military book that would have all of the post EMT training or do we just use more advanced EMT material (EMT-IV, EMT-P, etc)?

    Thanks,
    Mike

Default what else does 91w get you?

i realize 91w gets you cpr and emt-b. now there's a civilian phlebotomist job open in my home town. i know civilians must go to school for this. but with my 91w mos, am i now qualified as a phlembotomist? we did this job at BAMC as part of our training.

Ok, I'm a medic and I can answer some of the questions, 1st: 91 series was changed to 68 so as a 68W you are a combat medic. You are certified as an EMT-B (which is basic and means what it stands for, you CAN NOT do anything in the civilian sector BUT basic stuff; assist with meds, treat wounds with iodine pads and be an extra set of hands for an EMT-I or P). The training that you get in Whiskey school at AIT is only to be used on military personnel, mostly in combat. You CAN NOT even give IV's to civilians, that requires proper certification which you do not have as an EMT-B. What they teach you at BAMC is ONLY to be done when the situation absolutely requires it and if you are working on military personnel (particularly in combat situations). There are liabilities in the civilian sector and without proper certification you could suffer serious consequences for preforming atctions that you are not certified for. And EMT-I stands for Immediate. Now, there is a follow on school that you can request for. Talk to your recruiter about M-6 school (or as we say MIKE-6). That is an extra year of school either at BAMC, Walter Reed, or Ft. Stewert's Winn Hospital. You become an LPN so you are certified to practice alot more medicine than a medic. I have alot of friends who are in it and they really enjoy it, it's basically like going off to college with great pay! You can also go on to become a PA(physicians assistant and become an officer... all through Army training!) As a current CNA you aren't really going to get E-4 unless you have a degree. A CNA is not a degree, even if you did go to school for it. Now, your college hours can earn you a promotion of E-3, trust me- I wish I had used mine but I didn't want to pay my library fine.. lol, a big regret but it's something to say I started from the lowest rank and worked my way up... or waited my way up! Besides if you go in as an E-3 you will get promoted with time in service eventually. If you are already an EMT-P, you're in luck- you get to skip straight to Whiskey phase and only do the combat medicine! Cut's AIT in half. Well, good luck to all of you future medics it's a fun job and highspeed training!
