Are Prior Service eligible for the "try one" program? Is it restricted to certain MOS's. If so is 42L included? What about the $15,000 bonus?
Thank You

Recruiter told me today that try one is available for prior service. I think that's the route I'll take, assuming I pass the physical.
Hi, Prior service can do the try one. (I think the program is mainly directed at prior service) There is no Bonus however it is a good means to obtain training for an MOS with a bonus and then reenlist already quailified to get that bonus. (combat engineers get a nice reenlistment bonus)

Funny thing, reading the posts. Enlist in tryone, get MOSqd and reenlist in that MOS...
I got orders for school 8 months after ETSing from my TryOne.
I just read today that "Try One" is only available if you are already MOSQ. Does anyone have a link (regs) for positive confirmation on this?
you do not need to be MOSQ for try one, I am a recruiter, I use this program all the time.

I asked about through this forum, followed Sgt Bridge's advice, and just did this.
I'm prior service 11B, enlisted Try One as 35M1L. I've spoken to the Bn Opns Sgt and the Co Readiness NCO at my new unit, and it looks like I'll be going to MOS-T this summer. After I'm MOSQ, I can re-enlist for bonuses and the rest (SLRP, MGIB-SR, etc).
thank you, now people understand the recruiters are looking out for the soldiers

I signed up for the try one before becoming a Recruiter and you do not have to be MOSQ

I had to extend for a year after doing a TryOne. My original ETS is in June, and I don't leave for AIT until next month.Originally Posted by 3kids4me
It is a good way to see what the Guard is like though. I have to tell you it is quite different than active duty, but still a good experience.
I am presently on a "Try One" and non MOSQ. There is no Bonus or AIT unless you extend or reenlist. It really puts you in a good position (IMO) as you get to snoop around a bit and decide if it is really the right move.
As an example of timing means everything my unit has several soldiers returning in a few months from deployment and that will put us well over our 125% authorized strength level. Presently these soldiers are on other unit UMR's as they where pulled to augment other MOS's. What happens when they return? No one really knows, but if I where locked in too a standard enlistment I might be forced to find another unit and possibly re-class. At this point I am a warm body on the UMR and just training/observing.
Ok so from my understanding by doing "Try One" you do not get any bonus, but you do receive other benefits such as tuition assistance, MGIB, MGIB Kicker? If you sign up for "Try One" and once the contract is over and you don't reup, what kind of discharge would you receive? Do new discharges cover up your old discharge? Example, my RE Code is 2C and JFX. If I join the Army National Guard under the "Try One" program and then get out would my new DD Form 214 reflect my old RE Code and SPD code or would it reflect my service in the Army NG?
You do not have to attend AIT under "Try One"?Originally Posted by blacksan

I was told by my recruiter yesterday I may have to enlist under the "try one" program due to the fact that I didn't complete my original term in the USAF. That's fine with me, I'll reup and get a bonus.
