Default RSP At Ft. Pickett for Split Op

So I'm going this summer for BCT and in between that and AIT I was told I have to go to RSP at Ft. Pickett, Va throughout my senior year rather than go to my unit because I'm not fully trained. What sort of things should I expect since I'll have already attended BCT? Is there any way I could work on e-4 while I was there? And finally my biggest worry is that I'll have to just keep doing the same pre-BCT stuff that I would have already done. If anyone has any answers it would be wonderful. Thanks in advance.

lol...enjoy it. HR NCO knows more up to date information on it, but when I went to Pickett for RSP, it was quick paced and PT heavy. They have Drill Sergeants that went to DS School.

No, you can't work on getting your E4...unless you somehow manage to get a college degree during that year. The RSP at Ft Pickett is one of the smaller ones in the state. Probably only have about 10-20 soldiers drilling there each month. Because of the numbers, you wont really have a separate "green phase" when you come back from basic. You pretty much all train together. Now, that being said, because it is located at Ft Pickett, you'll have access to more training sites and will probably get to do some cool stuff like the land nav course or the MOUT site.

Ill tell you what you can expect.. Drill Sgt Johnson. That man is single handedly one of the funniest people I have ever met in my life. I am sure HRNCO can attest to that. Also, the MOUT site up there is pretty cool, we went up from Lynchburg to do it while I was RSP.. but, other than that, I honestly consider Ft. Pickett to be the 8th circle of ****. It will just make you all the more excited to get to BCT where they have money to keep it fixed up.

That is correct; you cannot enlist as an E4 without having a college degree first. However, as you are already enlisted, this doesn't apply to you. One thing to keep in mind is that as soon as you swear in, your time in service will begin. This is significant for automatic ranks such as Specialist which are determined by time in service and time in rank. Without even trying, you will already be working towards E4!

So since I'm already enlisted I have to wait until after A.I.T. for spec? I'm really excited for the extra training though. I hear since I'll have already been through BCT I'd be a leader there. I don't know how much leading I will do.

you will probably have to wait until you get to your unit for your e4. Unless you are one of the few who can get a waiver, it is 24-25 months tis before IPERMS sends you an email saying you got promoted. they will never promote in a IST environment. you might get paid it, but they wont give you your rank
