Default Is it really illegal to photograph a National Guard Soldier?

I've already sent out the appropriate e-mails and texts with location, rank and name tag to the appropriate individuals, but what I was wondering, is:

    1. Are Soldiers on US Soil permitted to bare arms outside a military post in full uniform and move about freely without martial law?
    2. Is it illegal to photograph a National Guard Soldier on US Soil in uniform?
    3. Are Soldiers allowed to wear shoulder straps to connect a cellphone holder with cellphone in open/plain view along their right breast pocket?
    4. Are National Guard Soldiers allowed to wear full ACUs outside of a Drill Weekend?

I'm sure someone already "engineered" a search feature for you to find answers to your questions.

Yes. What if the NG unit is convoying from NY City to Fort Dix for weekend drill?
No. But I will use discretion and get permission because the soldier might object; just like special operators do.
    No. Refer to AR 670-1
Yes. I use to drive to drill in my uniform all of the time.

Appropriate e-mails and texts with location, rank and name? What did you do? Take a pic of the individual and have your buddy look them up on AKO and sent them an e-mail?

On number 4, you should not wear them if you are not performing duty. On your way to and from duty, yes, you can wear them. Just to go the mall, no, don't wear them.

Exactly on number four. I should of answered it properly. But for many active duty soldiers that are stationed at major installations; you will see soldiers in uniform off-duty (after work; enroute to home) at the mall; walmart, etc. They do not put their uniforms on; if they are off on the weekends to hang out. If you are close to Joint Lewis-McChord in Washington State; dont make the assumption that the soldier is NG unless you recognize the unit patch.

    Nothing that I did.

Ran into a Soldier with the WAARNG Eagle Head patch on the shoulders (the unit crest) walking around town aimlessly with what looked like a gun strapped to his thigh in a holster. He freaked the heck out when a younger woman (prob high school age) wanted to take a photo with him, and he threatened he would have her put in prison for taking any photos of him at all. Called her and her friend "retarded *******", I stepped in to ask him to calm down, (more so to see his chest for rank/last name) and be on his way.

He called me "stupid pogey bait civilian piece of ****" and walked on.

E-mail the incident to several NCOs of higher rank and a couple Officers and explained it, with his name and rank with unit crest identity, and waiting to hear back if Drill Weekend is this weekend. And if so wondering if any Soldiers were authorized fire arms/open carry of them in uniform to liesurely walk down a street in the opposite direction of the Armed Forces Reserve Center. (Couldn't be walking to Ft. Lewis, because that's 120 miles away in Tacoma. This was in Marysville. I'm not going to disclose on na open forum where the Guard Soldiers at the Marysville Armed Forces Reserve Center usually go for training exorsizes, but it's not downtown Marysville)

I know the unit patches Guard and Reserve Units in my area wear.

Incident took place very, very far away from Lewis McChord, and quite frankly, I"ve never seen an Off Duty Soldier from JBLM walk around Tacoma with a gun strapped to their thigh before.Couldn't tell what kind it was, other than it had to of been a type of pistol holstered in a pistol holster.(could only see the handle, couldn't get a very good look of the hammer)

Reason I was asking these questions in first post, was to verify information on regs.

    Thank you =)

So was it a gun or not? Looked like does not mean anything. IMO, if you are going out the gate; then you secure your weapon (can still have holster worn); then return. Also, it is not a violation to be rude.

The second thing disturbs me is that you will e-mail people with this individuals name; causing a ruckus when there might not have been not an issue. Putting your nose in matters might cause a big problem in the future. Take it from a former Cop that many times; left the job at work instead of playing 24/7 super cop. Those were the ones that always got themselves into ****.

I seen this type many times before. Dont be gung-ho without even earning the gung-ho degree.

If they are in full uniform, then their arms are covered. If they have bare arms, then they are not in full uniform, unless you mean APFU, then they might have bare arms.

If the forum filters didn't work, you'd probably have heard worse by now....

BTW, your posts are so full of confusing/conflicting information, I'm suprised you still get decent answers.

I've never had that problem distinguishing Guard patches from Regular Army patches. There's only a few active duty patches compared to the tons of Guard patches all over the place.
