All i know about 88m is the AIT is six weeks, including practice in driving several types of military vehicles.

But once you go in to the Militray or the Army, I thought they removed your lic.

Nope still need a linces to drive viechiles ( i know in KSARNG) for some fo the MOS you need to have your driver lince already.

The United States Armed forces own and operate over 50,000 heavy trucks and buses. It's up to the Motor Transport Operators to operate vehicles, which include water/fuel tank trucks, semi-tractor trailers, heavy troop transports and passenger buses. From sedans to semi tractor trailers, troop transports and buses.

Motor Transport Operators are primarily responsible for supervising or operating wheel vehicles to transport personnel and cargo. Some of your duties as a Motor Transport Operator may include:

Reading load plans
Checking oil, fuel and other fluid levels, as well as tire pressure
Driving vehicles over all types of roads and terrain, traveling alone or in convoys in support of combat operations
Keeping records of mileage driven and fuel and oil used
Washing vehicles and perform routine maintenance and repairs

The AIT time for an 88M is seven weeks not six. Yes you will recive a CDL licence and yes you will be trained on how to drive all of the military vehicles. You will also more or less be going to Ft. Leonard Wood, MO for your Advanced Individual Training. Im not sure but I think that you might get to choose what youd prefure to drive.

2ndglance...TYVM for the link. I browsed it & let me tell you! I was considering the 88M, however I found more detailed information about other careers I may persue. I am in the medical field now, and the administrative and dental jobs seem appealing because it's a career that I can stay in the same field for, but it's better than what I do now, plus the AIT time is short, and that's a big concern for me. THANKS A BUNCH!

Well I am a 88m, and my AIT is 9 weeks and 4 days long to be exact!!! It states it clearly on my contract and I have it at Ft. Leonard Wood

Hello for the first time everyone!
I am joining the Nevada National Guard shortly, I go to MEPS on the 29th. I will be an 88M, but already have a CDL from my civilian job. Does this decrease the training time at AIT? I am aware of the CASP program, but declined because of $10K versus $20 K enlistment bonus. Just wondering!

isnt 88m the worst job you can get? i heard they only have 45 days life expectancy if your deployed is that true? they also get hit alot.

LOL well i never heard this 45 life expectancy thing, if that were true we would have alot more casualties per day, And its not the worst job, it leads into civilian driving carreers, and gives you all the liscences you would need. so good luck down at AIT.

I went t meps on 20070130, signed an swore in, will be going to Ft Jackson for BCT and Ft Sill, TX for AIT as 88M. Has anyone been to Ft Sill, how is it?

FOR THOSE ASKING ABOUT YOUR CDL : IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT STATE YOU ARE IN. THERE ARE SOME STATES THAT WILL GIVE IT TO YOU AS SOON AS YOU GET BACK FROM AIT AND SHOW THEM YOUR PAPERWORK. SUCH AS FLORIDA. THEN THERE ARE OTHERS THAT YOU STILL HAVE TO TAKE THE CDL CLASSES. GRANTED YOU GET CREDIT FOR SOME OF THE TRAINING THAT YOU DID IN AIT BUT THERE MAY STILL BE ADDITIONAL CLASSES AND TESTS THAT YOU HAVE TO TAKE TO GET YOUR CDL IN CERTIAN STATES (SUCH AS INDIANA)
FOR THOSE ASKING ABOUT THE VEHICLES THAT YOU WILL BE TAUGHT TO DRIVE AT AIT: YOU WILL NOT LEARN TO DRIVE THEM ALL. CHANCES ARE YOU WILL ONLY DRIVE 3 MAYBE 4 VEHICLES WHILE YOU ARE THERE. THE 5 TON, THE DUCE AND A HALF AND THE 915. AND POSSIBLEY THE HUMVEE. AS FAR AS THE HET AND OTHER VEHICLES, IF YOU NEED TO KNOW THEM THEY WILL BE TAUGHT AT YOUR UNIT. THE VEHICLES AT AIT ARE ALSO AUTOMATICS, IN MOST CASES THE NATIONAL GUARD UNITS STILL HAVE THE OLDER TRUCKS AND VEHIVLES THAT ARE MANUAL. YOU WILL ALSO BE TAUGHT TO DRIVE THEM IF YOU DON'T ALREADY KNOW HOW.
FOR THE PEOPLE WHO WERE ASKING ABOUT WHAT VEHICLES YOU WILL BE DRIVING AFTER AIT: YOU REALLY DON'T GET TO CHOOSE. FOR THE MOST PART EVERY NATIONAL GUARD UNIT HAS 1-3 DIFFERENT VEHICLES IN THEIR MOTOR POOL. YOUR SERGEANTS WILL PUT YOU IN A PLATOON THAT IS ASSIGNED TO A CERTIAN VEHICLE. YOU DON'T USUALLY GET MUCH OF A CHIOCE IF ANY. MY UNIT HAD HETS AND HUMVEES. I HAVE NEVER DRIVEN A HET BEFORE, BUT IT IS NOW WHAT I AM ASSIGNED TO. MY LAST UNIT ONLY HAD 5-TONS. OTHERS ONLY HAVE 915S. IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE UNIT THAT YOU GO TO.

Fort Sill is in Oklahoma. Also you do not get to pick what you drive. You drive everything. They will tell you what you will be driving.

I passed my test this week,all I have to get done now on my part is get my tattoos removed from my hands.
From what Im readin so far 88m's do see combat?
I mean I dont care when joining the military you always take that risk of seeing combat.
