talk to the meps people, explain the situation, try to get the earliest slot possible. IDK why you want to go as late as June 1. Most people who head off to benning tend to go at the end of april, early may. That is kind of peak season, so dont be surprised to have a may 10th date or something early like that. and if they offer it, take it take it take it! trying to get things how you want it at this stage will only delay things, and you might miss the wedding

On the Benning website it says that reception is only supposed to last 3-5 days, so I was really shocked to hear how long some people were there. I'm still unclear on what exactly they'd be doing for 2 weeks of reception ?? Getting uniforms, haircuts, briefing, buying **** ... I know I must be missing some stuff, anyone want to fill in?

I'd like to go yesterday, but the reason I'm waiting till June is because I'm currently finishing my last semester at St. John's University in Queens and graduation is on May 13th. Figured I'd give myself 2 weeks to breath and get things in order before I ship.

In a perfect world it only last 3-5 days because that is how long it should take to do all that you actually have to do. However, if there are not enough people to start a class, you may end up waiting for enough people to get there and go through reception and that is where the 2 weeks can come from.

Ahh ok, that makes sense. What else is done at reception though? Did I pretty much cover all the bases with getting uniforms, haircuts, getting briefed, and going to px?

I'm scheduled to arrive at reception this Wed 9/5, start basic 9/11, graduate BCT 11/16, then start FOCS 11/19. Will my processing at reception be expedited to be sure I'll be done with basic in time to start OCS? After checking ATTRS it looks like there isn't another OCS class following my 11/19 class until after Christmas...

Anyone have any experience in finishing reception and starting BCT earlier than the date on their contract? I ship 9/24 but don't start OSUT until 10/5. Is there a chance I'll be done with reception before 10/5, or should I expect it to be accurate? I understand that 3-5 days is uncommon and of course I have heard about some that actually did go 2 weeks, but I haven't heard anyone compare the dates on their contracts to what actually happened. Not that it matters, but just curious.

When I went through federal OCS there was 35 09S in my BCT. You will make it to OCS on time. Don't sweat the little things like that now. Just focus on showing up to BCT squared away.
