what are the pro's and con's of both.

Now this is an interesting question that I'm afraid only you will be able to answer objectively. Here are some of mine:
ACTIVE DUTY
Pros:
1. job security
2. travel opportunities/assignment variety
3. better advancement (you don't have to wait for a slot to open up)
4. meet people from everywhere

Cons:
1. obligation limits your off-time, meaning you can't just go work somewhere else. You are a soldier 24-7 during your term of service.
2. your unit is a constant flux of personnel requiring continuous training
3. harder on families due to lack of continuity
4. Being away from "home"
