Default Looking for Flashlight Recommendations

I am looking to upgrade from my old L-Type Flashlight and looking for recommendations.

I have used a Blackhawk Gladius (bad experience) and a Surefire C2 (good experience) but I am looking for a good general purpose flashlight rather than a shooters light this go round. I have been relatively happy over the years with the L-Type and the Mini Mags but I am curious as to the newer lights out there.

I have been looking at the Energizer Flashlight - Hard Case Tactical and the Streamlight Sidewinder, but I am completely open to suggestions.

SureFire G2 hasn't let me down yet.

My SureFire, works great, but for the one I keep in the truck is my ever faithful 3 Dcell Maglite. Its a good light and also good for tapping the occasional crackhead. So its multi purpose, I do not suggest nor endorse violence.

Surefire.

Yes, and I mean SUREFIRE (PERIOD)

As in, pick one, any one. You'll be all set. Not only will you be able to see stuff, but the next time Joe Idiot decides he's gonna see how easy it is to get in your house, he'll get blinded just before he gets shot.

I was given a 'Phantom Warrior' before my last deployment. I have had it for 6 years and it works fine.
Not as bright as my Surefire but it doesn't cost as much to run with different batteries.
It uses AA's which are easy to find, specifically if you are using NVGs
It has varying intensities of Green and White light.
It also has an IR function when you reverse the batteries.

Streamlite makes a good flashlight, not sure of the model but their is really bright LED one I use that also has a strobe effect on when pointed in a person's face can cause you to start feeling sick.

Here is a review of a bunch of flash lights on a local forum. WARNING: Language in some posts may be vulgar.

Edit: When choosing a flashlight, remember where and when it will likely be used. Many flashlights use CR123 batteries which in a SHTF scenario won't be as readily available as AA, C...etc

Intova makes excellent flashlights.

That link goes to their Nova flashlight. They have two versions the concentrated beam, which you see if you follow the link and a wide angle beam.
They're water proof and have no seals except the back to replace batteries. The switch is magnetic so even that doesn't have a seal. The new models use AA, the older ones use a camera battery that you can get at Rite Aid or pretty much any place that sells that flashlight.

130 lumens with a 6-8 hour continuous burn time. I have one and the batteries have lasted well over a year. Its also very durable.

Surefires are the gold standard. However, I'd highly recommend going with an LED lamp and lithium ion rechargeable batteries. I have a Surefire G2 and use a single LRB-168B rechargeable cell from Liotec and a Cree LED lamp. That does more than double the starting price of the flashlight, but I've been using the same battery cell and lamp since fall of 2006, including an Iraq deployment, so I think I've recouped my investment. Additionally, the Cree lamp is about 3x as bright as the stock Surefire bulb.
