As my original MOS no longer exists (05G/97G), I'm looking at alternatives. To other, older, prior service types I ask:
What's it like being 40ish and in AIT? What issues came up? How did you afford it (I'm looking at 96B - a 20 week AIT)?
TIA

I've answered one of my own questions - with pay, BAH, and separation, I'll only be grossing $292 less than my civilian job.
That seems doable
When I went through AIT, there were a few older class members. Other than them not staying in the barracks with the rest of us, no one even noticed. Or, at least, no one mentioned it.
Speaking of AIT, how is Guard AIT done...drills and annual training or through regular schools?
