Question Bet you can't answer this

I am currently in phase II of state OCS. I have been administratively promoted to E6 for the duration of the program. My full time job is an ADSW type job (code 124 actually), where I work on orders as a guard member. I wear "OCS" as rank during my daily job outside of OCS. I was an E4 prior to entering OCS. The question(s) is this:

    (1) Is it appropriate for me to wear "OCS" as rank at my job outside of OCS? If not, then what would I wear? Remember my LES says E6 with 13 years (prior service).

    (2) As I have been promoted to a higher pay grade, does this mean that I can function within the duties of that grade?

    (3) Would it be appropriate for my to have an E5 subordinate to me or have me subordinate to en E5?

At work everyone has been handling the whole situation without actually addressing it. One day I am performing duties traditionally assigned to junior officers, the next day I am being assigned duties traditionally performed by an EM. Also, upon commissioning, I will return to my full time job as a team leader.

Also, If anyone has any specific references, that would be GREATLY appreciated. Standard OCS references do not address the details of this situation.

    Default State OCS grad

Well, good questions. I graduated from my state's OCS program back in August of '05, so I imagine not much has changed, except that you don't wear BDU's anymore.
Before that, I spent 3 semesters in ROTC.
Anyhow, unlike some ROTC cadets, I wore the OCS rank on my collars (BDU's) and also received E-6 pay (ROTC cadets get E-5 pay). Also, just like you, I enlisted as a SPC E-4. Once I was enrolled in State OCS though, I was treated like the cadets were, in that I was sometimes addressed as "Sir" by even NCO's. It took some getting used to at first. As long as you are succeeding in the program, you should be able to function at a rank/grade higher than an E-4. I mean, you're going to be an officer, right? OCS is kind of like a transition period where you get to practice being an officer, but do not receive the full treatment or benefits of being one yet, since you're not yet commissioned. Obviously, this means that an E-5 won't have to salute you, but he or she cannot order you around either (same as a cadet). Hope this helps, but do talk to other OCS grads and Candidates.

ok well this is how its supposed to work.

You are not supposed to wear OCS rank till after PHASE 1 of OCS
You should be wearing nothing before this no rank no unit patchs not even the flag.

Even thought you might be getting paid as a E6 this does not mean you have the duties of a E6.
At work you still are a E4, that is your rank, there is a difference between rank and pay grade, usualy its the same such as if you are E5 rank you will be getting paid by pay grade E5, now there are such things as "acting" such as a 1SG pay grade (E8) in the Acting Sergeant Major. So he preforms the duties for a higher pay grade but deosnt get paid for it.

You shouldnt be called Sir, till you are commisioned, during Phase 3 you should be getting called mister or misses ( just like warrent officers)
You should not be saluted as you are not commisioned.
You should be getting called Candidate "last name" or OC "last name"

hope this clears it up some.
