    Default Joining after college grad???

Hi, my name is Brittany, I am 20 years old, and will be graduating college with a marketing BA degree in December 2006. I recently have been thinking about joining th guard, because it is something I am very interested in, and I would be honored to serve my state and country. However, I've been doing some talking around (i have some friends in NG) and most people seem to think joining guard after I am through with college is pointless and I would feel akward because most people who join are A) younger or B) in need of money for college. They also tell me I would probably make more money if i just went and got a civillian job right out of college since my rad date is so close. I understand their view points, and they have been questions Ive asked myself aswell. I am wondering... is it odd to join after your college is already complete? Would their be any benifits of joining now with all my college credits i have? Do you think that joining NG now will hurt my chances of getting a good job when i get back from basic (Since then i wouldnt be looking for a job with current grads, Id be a couple months delayed for NG training)?
I'm really confused, because NG is osmething I want to do, but i dont want to ruin my chances for a career... Any ideas?
    Thanks so much!

Joining the Guard is not going to ruin your chances of getting a good job. On the contrary, it will help you acquire a set work ethics and values that most private sector companies want their employees to possess (reliability, self-discipline, integrity, being a contributing member of a team, etc.).

You have a unique opportunity of being able to get the full time job of your dream and at the same time serve your state and your country (since the National Guard is part time service you would be able to do both). If you think you may be overlooked or dismissed by future employers due to your membership to the National Guard, don't think that way. There are federal laws and regulations that prevent conflicts between National Guard members by educating the employers on how much more capable the military makes their employees. A lot of businesses are working hand in hand with the military to ensure that Guardsman are given appropriate time to do their duties especially if they work on fields that correlate to their civilian job. It is a relationship that benefits both your employer and the military.
