Getting 15 college Credits

If you don't have your high school diploma and you want to get the 15 college credits, does it matter what classes you take.
Could you go down to local CC and take a 15 credits of basket weaving, culinary arts, dance, drama etc.

You just need 15 credits, doesn't matter how you got 'em. If you decide to go that route, you would be better off fulfilling your general education requirements than "basket weaving" i.e. Math, English, History, etc.

Yes.. I would at lease take some math and english classes.Taking those classes will get your asvab scores up, plus if you are looking to get into college afterwards,that is a classes you don't have to worry about

I scored a 88 on the ASVAB, been threw MEPS with no hang ups. I'm just waiting on waivers. (Traffic tickets and Dependents).

I'm just comming up with a plan B just in case they decide to stop signing waivers or taking people with GED's.

Most of the general education classes are 12 weeks long but I can take enough 8 week classes to get my 15 credits. With the exeption of 2 history classes that I would be taking most of the 8 week classes fall along the lines of electives. The classes start in a couple of weeks and would be out in May.Plus their are some CLEPS exams I can pass.
So I could have 20-21 credits by the end of May.

Best case, they sign my waivers and let me in. I end up with promotion points. I just don't want to take classes that wont help me with my army / NG career. I'm all squared away with civilian career.

You will meet with an admissions counselor who will give you a test on basic math and english. Depending on that test, you might have to take some high school math again (e.g. algebra). Also, depending on what you might major will determine the 100 level course you will take. You might take English 101 or Sociology 100 if you a Computer Information Systems Major. The counselors in the school will guide you. Your freshman classes are not that difficult and you can get 15 credits in one semester if you take 5 classes.

Any college course will count. You will have to take 100 level because you will be a freshman just starting out.

oh ok i see what you're saying. lol im so new at this stuff, thanks for your help. i retake the asvab on march 11 because i got a 45afqt last time and i got a ged so i just want to do somthing, insted of waiting for them to lower the score back down. well thanks a lot for your help.

Community colleges have classes under the 100 level, e.g. Math 27 etc.
Universities start out at the 100 level.

EDITED to clarify that Community colleges are not exclusive to under 100 level courses. Community colleges are the only ones that offer sub 100 courses (hence the reason why most any person can attend CC versus a University). Only classes 100 level or higher can be transfered to a University.

oh really? what school is this? I have my transcript in front of me when I attended Norwalk Community Technical College in the 90s and I have an intro to telecommunications class (D101) and an English literature and compositioin (D102) class. hmmmm lol and other various 100 level and 200 level courses.

they even have an associates in nursing program

Depending on your test scores, a community college may place you into a below 100 level class like Math 27. It's like a "refresher" course before they will let you take Math 100 or higher. Of course they have classes higher than that. Mr. Johnson was asking if below 100 level courses count towards the 15 credits. You told him that he would automatically be at the 100 level because he was a Freshman. That is not true, as I just stated why.

I don't know the answer to his question. Maybe a recruiter will know.

Well that is what I meant by my algebra remark (my post #7). And when I went to the University of Buffalo, I had to take that same basic skills test (so its not only given at community colleges, its given at Universities as well so you are wrong about that one lol). Alot of my fellow students in the EOP program had to take those basic math classes again. Your remark made it sound like that 100 level courses are not offered at community colleges. Sorry for mis-reading and sorry for not writing it thoroughly about a 100 level course since I know what they are. I actually lived in the dorms and pledged a fraternity lol.

i understand now, it depends where i place on the test, as where they will let me start at. even if my math for some reason was'nt good enough, can i just take 100 level classes regarding other stuff like history, computer, etc?

Well if you are not matriculated, then you can pick and choose stuff that might interest you but I rather choose a degree program. Again, your counselor will guide you on the right path. Just explain your situation to him/her.

Yeah, years ago when I decided I would go to college, I took the test to see where I stood with math. Mind you, I did up to calculus in High School. It was almost 2 years since I had had graduated and found myself in remedial algebra. It was one of those "use it or lose it" things for me. You don't get credits for those classes though.
