He won't even take the test. He will "fast track" and go into LPC and whiskey side.

Here is how it works. Just graduated in December. If he is an NREMT-B he will fast track. If he is state cert. already he will get the opportunity to test out so he can fast track. He will want to fast track believe me. I went all 16 weeks and had enough of that place. Many people stay there for much longer than that for several reasons.

Oh yea. There are about 5 to 10 every cycle that do.
i talked to him yesterday and t/old him that he will be able to test out and he was realy excited but he wanted to know who he should tell and what he should say when he gets there? he wants to make sure he tells the right people so it actually gets done so he can get home asap!

When he gets there he will be at reception. This is where people can get hosed at Sam. I was lucky to be there for just a day and a half. Some people get stuck there for a whole month. He doesn't need to worry about who to ask really. Just his cadre most likely and there will be a lady when they get there ask who is NREMT Cert and State Certified when they are processing him into his company. He shouldn't have a problem just as long as he can stay awake through the 10 million briefs that are given before you begin training. His fast track can also vary. It could be a 7 week jump or just a 3. It just depends on where the next company is.
ok ill make sure i tell him.. that would suck if reception was a whole month cuz that adds on to the time your there doesnt it? as long as he tests out of emt wouldnt they just put him into a company thats going to the whiskey side which would make it a 7 week jump?

It depends when he gets there, when his orgininal company begins, and where the next company to begin whiskey side starting with LPC. For example say he is in Echo and Delta is 2 weeks ahead but Charlie already started LPC before he got there or had the opportunity to test out then he would be a hold over until delta gets to LPC. It depends on the length he will be there. It seemed average reception time was about 1 week to 2 weeks. The biggest thing is how his basic grad date correlates to when he can get to ft. sam. I know a guy who missed the cut off point to get in delta by a few hours. He had to wait forever. Or it can be the case like me. I got there on August 15 and started a few days later. Ft. Sam is getting full too.
oh man i hiope its like your case where reception isnt too long. i was hoping it would be like 1 week.. he was lucky and at basic got into the only company in the whole base to get their cell phones on some sundays for a few hours so im hoping his luck stays with him and he can fast track by alot and has a short reception! got any good details about sam houston? anything thats good to know or useful to know?

It's right in the middle of city so we he runs he will have a nice view going up and down NCO hill. They say the ratio is 5 to 1 women but I guess that is "up the hill" as they say. There are more guys than girls. It's about a 15 dollar taxi fare to the riverwalk/ center. It's pretty lame and I have no idea why people would pay money to see that place. The part that I liked was that medics are the only people who get to wear their PC during POI time unlike the rest of the base/Army who have to wear their beret. The place where people get run into trouble is the imfamous hacienda. He will get killed on taxi fare unless he has a car or a friend who is from San Antonio who can drive.
do they get weekend passes alot or do they pretty much stay on base? whats pt like and the classes and stuff? any other words of advice? they get their cell phones the whole time right?
do they get weekend passes alot or do they pretty much stay on base? whats pt like and the classes and stuff? any other words of advice? they get their cell phones the whole time right?
All of that depends with the company cadre. This is how is was with my company. We all got our cell phones laptops etc. the entire time. Some companies my restrict when he can use it but most likely everyone is the same on that. Don't expect any call until about 6 at night. He will be in class during the week til at least 5 and then they will have to get marched to chow which takes a very long time with the numbers that go through that small dfac and nobody got release until mail was passed out. He will have to stay on base for the first month at a minimum. It's called being phase 4. His company will later be able to go off post in phase 5 and phase 5+ (which that phase 5 + lasts about a week and it's kinda pointless) PT was harder than it was at basic which was nice b/c I felt basic pt was too easy. It's still pretty easy. Just running a few days a week and push ups sit ups type deal. At I think week 12 or 13 companies begin combatives in place of their PT. There are ZERO overnight passes. My company did get to go home for thanksgiving b/c our captain said if we raised 20,000 for charities (most picked the USO) we could go home for thanksgiving or get overnight passes. We raised I think like 22,000. We were the only company that got to do that. It also helped that we were very far a long in our training. My advice is that they always tell them down there that the fastest way out of Ft. Sam is to graduate and they couldn't be more right. As far as classes he will be in them all day and he will have never seen so many powerpoints in my life. You watch powerpoints from 8:30 until 5 for almost 14 weeks in a row. My guess is some days he may be kinda short with you if he's real tired. It just how long his days are. I hated it at the time but I look back on it now and it was kinda fun. Am I glad Im out of training? You better believe it but It was fun. Just didn't think at the time it was that great.
thank you very much! you have been realy helpful so we both kinda know what to expect when he gets there. i hope he gets fast tracked like really far but im not getting my hopes up and neither is he. hes excited to start the training and i dont think he will have any issues graduating, he seems to learn easily.. just needs to make sure he has no distractions.

He will be fine. I had ZERO experience in the field of EMT/Medic stuff and I passed just fine. It was also my first time to be away for a long time. Any more questions just ask them. Don't care if you think they are stupid. It's kinda pointless you go to his graduation really. Save the money unless you have some stored away. The way times are you may have some but doubt it. Not to exciting. He'll be home that day anyway
I have been told by my recruiter that the only way to fast track through AIT is to be a NREMT-Paramedic. Is that true? I've been reading some conflicting info. I am currently a state certified EMT-B

Your recruiter is WRONG. If you have your EMT-B you get the opportunity to fast track.
