for pushups, you should try what's called the Seinfield pushup program. What this involves is doing pushups throughout the three commercial breaks of a thirty-minute television program. Almost nobody can do pushups throughout the entire break, since that entails doing something like 200 pushups. So when you can't do any regular pushups, revert to "girl" pushups. The important thing is that you do pushups throughout the commercial breaks. It worked for me. I went from 25 pushups to close to fifty in about a week. When you first start, you should be able to do between 45 and 100 pushups (of any kind) during each break. This program can be applied to sit-ups as well.

As for running, your problem might be the terrain you're running on. Hills, obviously, are a lot harder to run that a running track at a college or whatever. If you want to improve your time, I suggest that you just run more often.

run 2 miles every other day and sprints the other days, this gives your muscles time to heal themselves. the push-up tree is a very effective way to improve.

Also run and take (hyrdox cut for a month and you will lose pounds!) Also work out... DON"T **** YOUR SELF by going from 2 miles to 40 miles in one week But also if you can't jog walk fast. But you need to jog for alteast 7 mins
Don't just jump for your goals, reach it so you won't fail.

Can't stress enough, stay AWAY from the diet pills. If diet pills were actually good for you, they'd be given for free or cheap to every American. They work for some people, and some do better in case studies on placebos. The FDA just recently fined 4 manufacturers, and you better believe that isn't the end of it.

Working out and drinking tons of water will do WONDERS for your weight. I am 5'9" and was 235 lbs. 6 months ago. Being out of breath going up to the 2nd floor of my house got me to start dieting. I'm now 201 lbs. and still losing. Make sure you eat 3 square meals a day, along with 2 more snacks (one in midmorning, one in afternoon). WATCH WHAT YOU EAT. No more fast food, fried food, highly processed food. Oatmeal does wonders in the morning. A sandwich with whole grain bread and some sunchips is great for lunch (or the smaller lean cuisines), and have a good balanced dinner (4 oz. meat, a small serving of whole grain pasta, 1-2 servings of vegetables). Also increase your calcium intake. Take calcium supplements, lots of milk. Calcium helps naturally increase your metabolism.

Do all that plus the daily (or twice daily if possible) workout, you'll drop 2-3 lbs a week and keep it off. That's 8-12 a month, so you'll be fit in plenty of time for basic.

What he said. You can't starve yourself when trying to lose weight, but you have to keep away from fast food, and fatty cakes, cookies, etc. That doesn't mean you can never eat another cookie for as long as you live. It just means you have to eat in moderation.
fortunately, you have a lot of time to prepare. If you're having trouble running, it might help if you followed a walk-to-run running plan. That just means run as far as you can (without killing yourself), then walk and catch your breath, then run again. Keep that up for about 20 minutes, three or four times a week. If you're consistent and work hard, you WILL eventually see improvement.
As for push-ups... it's actualy not good to do push-ups every day. Your muscles need time to rest and rebuild so they can get stronger. Every other day is the best way to do it. A good push-up work out is to do 100 (or 200, if you're feeling really strong) in a day. You don't have to do them all at once, just throughout the day do 100 (or 200). You do that for two weeks straight. Then at the end of the two weeks, rest your muscles for two days-no pushups at all. On the third day do a "push-up test." See how many you can get in two minutes without stopping. It worked for me. I went from ten push-ups to 45. And I'm 14 and female! If I can do it, you can do it.

Sit-ups: Sit-ups can be done every day, but every other day is just fine. A lot of people do sit-ups the wrong way or start out too fast. You might want to read this article: http://www.stewsmith.com/linkpages/proper_situps.htm

I hope some this helps you out. good luck.
