Default Can you be reclassed in the guard?

I signed as a 21B and was wondering if i could be reclassed to something else like for example. After training i show up at my unit and someone comes and say we dont need you so your gunna be reclassed to infantry. Like they do on active duty to people like ive heard of tankers being reclassed as cav scouts stuff like that.

Not exactly like you're talking about. In the guard, your fate is tied to your unit. They can't take a soldier & reclass them to fill a hole at another unit across the state. They have to leave you in place. The only time you see much involuntary reclassing is when the unit changes function. For example, we just a couple years ago went from an armored division to light infantry (traded tanks for humvees). So a lot of tankers had to choose to reclass infantry, cav scout, find an open slot for something else (not hard to do), or get out of the guard. They all had a choice in the matter though.

The only other circumstance I've seen is when a security clearance gets pulled & you can no longer hold your current MOS, then we'll make you find something else.

Everything is slot driven in the guard. When you enlisted, it was into a specific vacancy at a specific unit. If there isn't a lot of that kind of work for you to do there, you may be helping in an office or something, but you'll still be there with that MOS. Very rarely do we get to a staffing situation where we'd try to find another unit or MOS for someone. If we have shortages, that's what recruiting is for.

LT is right, you never know though. Our company was FA...now we're all truck drivers. They reclassed all the 13 series soldiers into 88Ms.

*shrugs* It depends if your state really wants to get their hands in the Federals Bank Account ;)

I think the long term plan is strykers, but I won't believe it till I see them. In the meantime, they're converting the savings from not having all those tanks to people getting highspeed schools. That's always nice.

So you are writing about being involuntary reclassed to another MOS as 42A (Personnel Specialists) to 88M (Drivers) as I saw on AD and in the CT Guard when they disbanded the A Co. 242nd Engineer BN and reclassed them to 11Bs or when Artillery units in the Guard were made provisional MPs. Yes, it happens but it doesnt happen with onsies and twosies in the Guard. Yes, after 2 years in your MOS; you are not happy and find a different MOS in your state that is open and you qualify for it; yes you can reclass. But dont worry, you going to play combat engineer so have fun.
