    Default Hey there

We got the rest of the day to be with our families. Then we had to spend the night at the barracks and we left the next day for our AIT.

No break between basic and AIT? I thought maybe they shipped you home for at least a couple of weeks.

It could take him aproxamently 10 weeks (1week of reception and 9weeks of training).
If you cant handle the military dont blame anyone but your self.!!!!

    Default hey there

They will usually send you an invitation....and during basic after the first few weeks they will eventually tell your son exactly what day graduation is so he can write home and tell you. You never can tell when it is going to be because some people are in reception for longer than a week, less than a week, and so on.

    Question question

so after graduation is over, then they start AIT? I thought that you went thru Basic, then AIT, and then you graduated, atleast thats what I understood from my boyfriend.

You have your choice. You can do the split option or do Basic/AIT right after the other.

    Default Graduation

Hello! Our son will be graduating in August. He still has one more year of high school left. When will he be able to leave Fort Bennig? I thought that he would be permitted to leave immediately following the ceremony?!?!? Any information you have would be helpful!

    Thank you!

Well I am not for sure how Ft. Benning works but I went through Ft. Knox and before the basic graduation that day. Our families were allowed to pick us up.

    Default Graduation

Thank you both for asking and answering the question. As with you joshsparents, my son will be graduating in August and still has his senior year of high school to complete. He is currently at Ft. Knox. I was wondering about Graduation, whether or not we can bring them home. This is my first child to go into the Military and to say the least, I'm a little nervous.

As far as I know you can pick him up on the day he graduates. My parnets did it for me, but that was ten years ago so have him ask. But he needs to notify his drill sergeant so they can cancel his flight

A couple of weeks before Basic Graduation occurs the Drills will go through the personnel list of people that are leaving and planning on flying home or being picked up by there parents. You should receive a letter from your soldiers Company Commander regarding the date and time of your soldiers release and other information pertaining to this event. You will be able to pick you soldiers up after Basic Graduation you might have to wait until they clear the Barracks. Also depending on you soldiers ship date to Basic they might miss a week or so of school but that is it.

My parents live in Indiana so they drove down and picked me up but for people who do not live within driving distance I would suggest have the military fly your young soldier home it will save you some money.

    Red face Graduation Question

My 17 yo son is graduating from basic training at Fort Jackson 8/25. We were wondering if he will be able to leave base with us after graduation ceremony as he is doing the split option and returning home with us to finish his senior year of high school. Also, how does he change his flight home that he has been given so he can fly home with us, his family on our flight/day/time? Thank you for your help.

I am expected to be going to Ft. Jackson pretty soon. Definatly could use some tips. I go for the asvab test in 2 days. My recruiter came over today to make sure we were still on. Also i'll be going to Boston for MEPS in the end of sept. so I don't forfeit the bonus for my MOS. Thanks for any help! Specially want to know about those DS's!

Well what I have seen some people do in order to go home with there families is deal with the air lines directly. They just go to the airport and have them change it around.
