I just wanted to let all of you prior service with oth's know that it is actually possible to get an upgrade; possible but certianly not easily obtained. It took me several years of trying, researching and retrying, but I finally got an upgrade. I had an oth out of the Marines from 1994. I think the key factors were, my time past since discharge, near 15 years. My post service conduct. And my determination by going all the way to DC on my own for a personal appearence, which helped helped get the upgrade. Not to mention countless letters to government officals, referal letters, clear criminal history and many other documents. You can never use the excuse that you were just young and dumb, even if you were. Take full responsibility of your actions and stress any good you have done since. The american legion in DC is a great resource for help. It is possible so keep trying if this is your goal. Next step is finding recruiter that will help me re enlist into the guard.
