Thread: Military ID

    Default Military ID

Hey, just curious but when is it that we get issued our Military ID? Is it similar to Active Duty Military ID Cards? Does it identify us by branch and state. I will be attending drills over the summer but my ship date isn't until early September.

You may get your ID before basic training, but that isn't definite. It says "ARMY" and has no difference between Active Duty, Reserve, and National Guard.

so if you go guard, you get a temporary ID card before shipping to basic. if you go active first, you'll have to wait to basic for your ID card.

    is this right?

The ID you can (not necessary) obtain before going to BCT is an "Army" ID, at BCT you get an Active Duty ID, but it is to be returned at the end of training. Once finished, you go back (or get) your Army ID.

Right. An ID card is an ID card. Back in the day, Active used to be green, reserve pink (I think?) and dependents tan. Now...all the same.

If you want your ID, you can go down to an issuing facility with a copy of your contract and a state ID and they should be able to make one for you.

You need two forms of ID. You could use Birth Certificate, SSAN Card, DL, ect. But you will need two of them.

Ahhh my recruiter told me just bring down my DL and he had my enlistment packet and gave everything to the woman working the ID stuff. So I guess he showed the copy of my SS card then.

Your other documents were ALREADY in your packet. If you go by yourself you need TWO. If you are getting reissued an ID card, you need TWO.

Retirement and Dependent IDs aren blue and tan respectively and are still being issued. Some soldiers are still getting the old green ID cards and the new ID cards which are called CAC cards are being issued. CAC cards can be used to login into AKO. I have a CAC reader on my home computer and its good having that extra layer of security.
