You will have X-Rays at Reception and they will ask if you have any current pain. I said no, so not sure exactly what happends if you say yes then. They likely set up an appointment for the next available time, doubtful it will happen right then and there as they are pushing ALOT of recruits through that day. If you say no, you get to Bct and you go through again. They ask about current pain and do a thorough exam. They will set you up for an appointment then to take care of it at the next opening they have. This can be a good or bad thing. You want to make sure it is NOT on a day that has a training event that will be hard to make-up. If you tell them your company, they usually have a list of days that wont work good for you. If you say no, you are currently okay, they might not take care of it until Ait. You cannot graduate Ait with any major dental issues. You again go to the dentist if you havent gotten the work done by that time, and they fix ya up. They are actually really good there. I was worried because of it being the Army and all, but they take good care of you. Unless you think it is something that you are going to wake up some day during basic and NEED to go in to get it taken care of THAT day, which could very likely be a very important training day, i'd seriously wait until Ait for the work. But you along with the doctor will determine this. Dont wait too far down the road in Ait though, because sometimes it can take a few days, to a few weeks to get in, and again, you will not graduate until your mouth is acceptable. Doesnt have to be perfect, but you need to get into an acceptible dental catagory. They found some stuff I was unaware of, and it came down to the wire, I was worried. Chain of Command actually had to step in and get me through in a hurry the last week of Ait.

You will pay for no dental while at Reception, Bct, or Ait. They even send you off post sometimes for a dental clinic and there is no cost to you. Oh, and your original question, no, you will not be disqualified for cavities.

I was taken off my mom's insurance after I left (was asked to leave) college, plus it dosen't hurt really right now but I know further down the road they will have to come out. After reading the other posts, figured I might as well wait til BCT and they provide the dental services.

I dont have official dates yet, but MEPS 2 weeks from now. Waiting on my doctor's medication information about when I had surgery on my broken arm, should be tomorrow. So I guess i'll really know tomorrow.

The original poster already went through MEPS and has a ship date. Any dental issues will not DQ her once at Bct. If you make it through MEPS, and have the wisdom teeth at Bct, no it would not be a DQ. Otherwise I have no clue what the dental regulation is for MEPS. But just guessing, there were ALOT of soldiers at Ait that had wisdom teeth pulled, I doubt they ALL got them between enlisting and Bct, some had to have had them at MEPS and got to enlist. The dental exam at MEPS is not that thorough, they have you open up, say ah, they look, you close your mouth about five seconds later. Of course they are trained to look for certain things in that short amount of time.
