  • SGT having to take admin reduction to join?

Currently on active duty, and ETS'ing soon. I'm looking to get an MOS reclass in my hometown of Tampa, but every recruiter i've spoken with explains nothing is available and that I would have to take an administrative reduction in rank to join. Is this a normal scenario?

While sometimes this could in theory be true, many times this is a ploy that you dont have to fall for. What happens is they want to save the E-5 slots for promotions within their own unit. Howver, I have heard that Florida is a state that is pretty full, so it may not be BS.

I took an admin reduction when I went from NG to AD because I did not want to take the MOSes to remain in that grade (ammo specialist, tanker). I took the reduction then when I get to reclass school, there are E5s and E6s in the MP class lol. So, do your research before you sign to the devil.

Anyway, things worked out fine for me in the long run so no harm; no foul.

I would not blindly follow that line without some proof.... It's usually a ploy. If I were you, I'd call the units or finagle a way to see their UMR.
