  • Active duty Army to Army National Guard (A2G)

The best resource to transition from Active Duty Army to the Army National Guard is to talk with a Reserve Component Career Counselor (RCCC), commissioned officers should speak with the Reserve Component Transition Officer (Silver Siege Recruiter). Both located on most Army posts, usually in the same location as ACAP or post out processing. They can assist in finding a unit, with open availability, to transition into with either the Army National Guard or Army Reserve. You can begin the process 180 days prior to your ETS date.

All Soldiers who intend to ETS are required to schedule a transition briefing within 180 days prior to release from active duty. This office provides the mandatory Reserve Component Interview to separating Soldiers.

Soldiers are briefed on the benefits and incentives of Army National Guard or Army Reserve membership, as well as duties and responsibilities of Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) assignment.

Some of the benefits of Reserve Component membership include: Deployment Stabilization (up to 24 months); TRICARE Medical and Dental (TAMP)/180 days; TRICARE Reserve Select (TRS); pay for attending weekend drill; exchange privileges; commissary privileges; space available air transportation; full-time Serviceman's Group Life Insurance; and eligibility to qualify for retired pay. Additionally, Soldiers who affiliate with the Reserve Component are still eligible for 100% Federal tuition assistance.
