  • Aviation career path

I am currently active duty and looking into doing aviation in the guard. I have a degree so I could do either warrant officer or commissioned officer. I have heard that warrant officers fly longer into their career, but I can't seem to find what the career progression is for a commissioned aviation officer. Can anyone shed some light on the subject? Thank You.

I'm not an aviator, but from what I've observed on the officer side you'll fly a fair amount as an LT, and some as a CPT, but once you go to staff or command your hours drop and you'll be doing more of the management of the assets (like any other branch commander) than flying. I've seen warrants of all levels flying - a lot.

Take this for what it is - anecdotal.

Thanks for the answer. That seems to be the general consensus of everyone I talk to. I haven't had a chance to chat with an actual aviation officer yet. I'm thinking I'll try to go warrant.
