  • Interstate Transfer for College?

I'm currently in the Pennsylvania National Guard & I wish to attend college in New York. My recruiter told me once I get home from AIT, I could request an interstate transfer. I leave for Basic Training on Monday. Looking at a calendar, I should be returning from AIT in December. College for me should start in January (Spring Semester). Is a time requirement with units before I could request a transfer? How long would a transfer request take? Is there a chance it could get denied?

    Any answers are greatly appreciated.

OP, coming back from AIT in Decemeber and wanting to IST to NY immediately is going to be hard. It usually takes a drill or two to get it worked out. In your case, if you need to start school in Jan, then you'll just have to make the trek back to PA to drill until you IST comes through.

IST can't be denied per se, but a commander can make a stink of it and drag it out if he/she wants....
