    If you are an E5 or an E6 are you required to complete SSD, or will SSD be a requirement only for soldiers eligible for promotion starting in 2014, I would appreciate any information, thanks.

    Re: SSD requirements

    I know Soldiers on active duty that are below E-5 that are doing their Structure-Self Development courses on a daily basis and this goes beyond E-6.

    Did you see these articles? It should be applicable for NG Soldiers to complete as well; prior to their respective NCOES courses.

    As of Oct. 1, junior soldiers will be required to complete SSD-1 before they attend the Warrior Leader Course.In addition, soldiers must complete:
    SSD-2 before attending the Advanced Leader Course.
    SSD-3 before attending the Senior Leader Course.
    SSD-4 before attending the Sergeants Major Course.
    SSD-5 after completing the Sergeants Major Course.

      I did read some of the directives that have come out, but it doesn't really explain whether or not you required to take them if you have already compled PLDC/WLC or BNOC/ALC, etc....

        Re: SSD requirements

        SSD1 is a pre-rec for WLC. If you completed WLC you don't need to take it. However, you get promotion points for completing SSD1 and it is a good review of what you learned in WLC.

          SSD will now follow you throughout your NCO career. RIGHT NOW its
          SSD1 is for E-1 to E-4 and E-5 who have not completed WLC.
          SSD3 is prerequisite for SLC
          SSD4 is prerequisite for SMC.

                Re: SSD requirements

                For the record, when I got promoted on the 19th I did not have an ounce of SSD1 done, but as Chief said it I will need it to go through WLC. I had one buddy in the entire company actually finish it, and from what he told me SSD can ONLY be done on Internet Explorer 8. Anything else just screws it all up. Whether anyone else can verify that I do not know.

                  Re: SSD requirements

                  I completed SSD1 for kicks, it got me some CLPs. It it very long and hard to chug through.

                  I did not try it on a non-IE browser so I can't attest to that, but I can attest to these facts:

                  - If you don't get to completely finish a module it makes you start over from the very beginning of that module;
                  - It's "save your place" feature upon module Exit (say you need to stop and go do something else and pick back up later) does not seem to work at all;
                  - It likes to crash.... a lot;
                  - ALMS itself is not very user friendly, i.e. tricky and tedious menu navigation.

                  Have fun with it, all you poor souls who are actually required to complete it.

                    Did you use a version other than IE 8? Or is that bit I said earlier true?

                      I'm using my GOV laptop which runs IE9. When I started the course though, we were still on IE8. It was quite time consuming.

                        Re: SSD requirements

                        This is my states policy.

                        2. Effective 1 January 2014; the following requirements apply to eligibility for consideration on all enlisted promotion lists:

                        a. Specialists and Corporals (E4) must complete SSD-1 before attaining eligibility for promotion against a valid Sergeant (E5) promotion vacancy.

                        b. SSD-1 is also a prerequisite to attend the Warrior Leader Course (WLC); effective 1 April 2013. WLC is a requirement for eligibility for promotion consideration to E6.

                        c. There is no SSD-2; instead the common core phase of the Advanced Leaders Course serves that purpose. Completion of this level of training will not be tied to promotion eligibility.

                        d. Staff Sergeants (E6) must complete SSD- 3 and ALC to attain eligibility for promotion consideration to Sergeant First Class (E7).

                        e. SSD-3 is a prerequisite to attend SLC; effective 1 June 2013.

                        f. Sergeants First Class (E7) must complete SSD-4 and SLC to attain eligibility for promotion consideration to Master Sergeant (E8).

                        g. SSD-4 is a prerequisite to attend the Sergeant Major Course (SMC), effective 1 June 2013.
