  • Former German Soldier interested in the National Guard

    Hello there,

this is my first post here, so I thought I should introduce myself briefly.

I'm interested in joining the National Guard.
It's actually an itch I feel I need to scratch.

I'm a German citizen, living with my American wife in California.
I should get my SSN within the next two months.

I've served in the German Military in 2001 & 2002 with foreign assignments in the balkans.

Before I met my wife, I was actually looking to join the Marine Corps.
But age, tattoos and citizenship were not in my favor.

I know first hand how much stress the military lifestyle can put on a family.
The National Guard might be a good way to get the best of both worlds.

I have searched in this forum, and it seems to me, that my citizenship doesn't seem to be a problem for the Guard.

I would sit down with a local NG recruiter to have a better idea of where you stand instead of asking the forums. I don't want to give any false info here so I'm going to leave the rest to your local recruiter. Good luck.

      Guten Tag Herr Empower me,

I was based in Germany from 2007-2011 and earned the silver schützenschnur while stationed there. Initially, I served as an MP and carried the MP5 on my PSD duties. Fun stuff. You just need to visit a NG recruiter for answers.

      Tschuss

You may enlist when you have status as a permanent legal resident ("Green Card").

Tell us more about your age and tattoos, because they may present different problems.

          Thank you for your responses.

It's pretty safe to say, that I'll be getting my green card within the next 8 weeks.

I'm 31 and tattoos are covering the top of one foot, a leg, one arm and my back.

No tattoos would be visible in uniform and rolled down sleeves.

            Those should be non-issues.
