  • National Guard in High School

Hey guys, I am a sophomore in high school, I am in the Civil Air Patrol and I intend to go to the Air Force Academy. Naturally I look for any way I can serve my country so is it possible to enlist the summer before my Senior year? I turn 17 in late July. If this is possible, what would NG life be like? Thanks

If you turn 17 before the end of your junior school year, you will be able to go to basic training over the summer break. We'll get you back to your senior year of school so you can then drill as a soldier while you are in senior class. Ask your parent(s) to call your local recruiter for info about the "Split Training" option. NONE of this will be able to happen unless your parent(s) will sign a DD form 2807-2(page 4) & the DD form 1966(page 5) .

Yup, that split training option is great for recruits in your situation! Here's some general information about the program.
