  • Knowing a Foreign Language.

Hi I'm currently an AD 11B E-4 and i was wondering if there was any advantage in me already knowing a foreign language(I speak Russian and scored 2/2+ on the DLPT)? Right now i have less than 10 months left in the Army and i plan on joining NG and eventually going SF.

      Funny, but not too helpful.

Already knowing and being rated in a foreign language is an asset, but it will not give you anymore of an advantage in regards to being a candidate for SF. If you were to be selected for SF, you would more likely than not still be required to learn an additional language during SFQC, based on the needs of the specific NG SF unit.

Yes, you have advantages; check with your S-1 and they will be able to guide you through the process to have it in your ERB/ORB. You might be entitled to Language pay which is a plus.

        Please check the following link:

If you need more info send me a PM, I will be more than happy to assist you.

JGLR, I believe the OPs question was in regards to advantages for consideration for Special Forces.

          Its no problem.

But, thanks for the information about FLPB. I didnt think to include it in my initial response and most soldiers do not realize that they could actually qualify to receive it, even if there duty MOS does not require language rating.

I was by told by my chain of command that you no longer get paid for it unless it is required by your MOS

Did you click on the link provided by JGLR? Because that is the current policy/requirements.
It sounds like your CoC is mistaken.
