  • Security Clearance

I am looking to rejoin the National Guard as an officer after a three year break in service. I no longer have an active security clearance. My recruiter is telling me I need to have a security clearance prior to rejoining. Is this true and if it is where can I initiate it. I have already taken and passed the physical. I have done everything except I do not have the clearance any more.

    Thank you,

    Bob

If you are joining as an 09S candidate, then you would require just a secret clearance in which the recruiter will initiate. That is done by completing your SF 86 application.

This is a Catch-22, because an individual can't initiate a clearance. You may wish to get your recruiter's supervisor involved. The recruiter must initiate the clearance, and barring any bad things in the initial check, your State can reappoint you on the basis of an Interim Secret.
