  • AMEDD 72D Direct Commission

    Hello Sir/Ma'am and Sergeant!

I am currently in California National Guard as a Specialist and I want to become an Environmental Science/Engineer Officer.

Here's a little bit about me:

    - I have been in the guard for a little over a year. ( I joined as an E4)
    - I am currently working as an Electrical Engineer for the government.
    - I am pursuing Master of Science in Environmental Engineering and will be graduating in next two years.

I have a few questions about AMEDD 72D Direct Commission process:
    1. I have SLRP in my contract ( about $35000) and am wondering if SLRP will be continued if I choose to become an Officer.
    2. I have to take out additional loans for my Masters and I want to know if additional loans could be paid off by California National Guard again when I become an Officer.

    Thank you.

    Great question.

Here's my initial knowledge off the top of my head and a quick glance at SRIP. I'll dig in more later and make sure I'm getting the right info out.

    In FY13 SRIP Policy 17 a (3)
Loans must have been disbursed prior to the date of enlistment, affiliation, or reenlistment/extension in order to be eligible.....
Loans disbursed after the date of enlistment... not eligible... unless soldier is reenlisting/extending for ... 6 years... w/o a break in service form original SLRP contract start date...

    (4)
    ...Limit is $50,000

    FY13 SRIP Policiy e. Termination w/o recoupment
    (3) An Army Medical Department (AMEDD) Officer who received SLRP will be
terminated without recoupment effective the date he or she is appointed to an AMEDD
corps or branch .. This does not apply to 67 J, 70B, and 72D, which follow the above
    guidance for basic branches.
